Tutor Marked Assignment Tips

Struggling with the Tutor Marked Assignments?
I found, much to my annoyance, that when I got marked down in an assignment, it wasn't because I didn't know the answer. It was, generally, my own fault. I was trying to be too clever, I was rushing too much, I wasn't reading the questions. These are all common problems and they are failings that could make the difference between success and failure in the exams.
Read the Questions!
Carefully! Read the question once, then read it again, then stop. Now read it slowly, can it be interpreted in another way? Are you sure you know what the question is asking?
Eliminate the Obvious
So, you don't know which answer is correct, but it is very likely you know one or more answers to be wrong. Narrow down your choices, improve the odds!
What do you Know?
Consider each word or phrase in the question, what do you know about each individual part. How do they relate to the overall question. This approach can often jog the memory.
Take Notes
I don't believe anybody is able to answer all of the assignment questions purely from memory. Taking notes as you work through the course serves two purposes. 1. It is, in my opinion, the best way to fix the facts in memory in the first place. 2. It provides you with an quick and easy reference to refer back to.
Ask the Tutor
Don't be afraid to ask for help. That is what they are there for. While you are able to email the tutors a question, I have found that telephoning is more likely to produce a result. Emails are too easily misconstrued or open to ambiguous interpretation.
Practice
If you are new to any kind of multiple choice examination you will find that understanding how questions are phrased can be a difficulty. Consider investing in one or other of the dummy exams that are available. I, personally, have used Boson in the past. Not for the CIW exams but for my CCA exams that I took a few years ago.
