FOO
Master CIW Website Design Manager
OK! so I was at a loose end, having an idle moment, thinking out of the box, or just going plain stupid!
But the word, or acronym, FOO appears repeatedly throughout this course in code samples in the manuals. So what is it? I didn't know, and I'm not sure that I'm any the wiser now. I reached for the Google button and started digging and came up with a few acronyms, many with their origins in the armed forces, so here's what I found:
|
Forward Observation Officer Family of Origin Flight Operations Officer Field Ordering Officer Flight Operations Office Flight of Opportunity Follow on Outfitting Fibre Optics and Optoelectronics |
and the one I favoured as it seemed to be the most fitting, given the context in which it was being used.
File Open for Output |
There is another possible explanation or point of origin, which I think again comes from the military:
FooBar derived from Fubar - Fouled Up Beyond All Redemption
There are many variations of this, but this was the most polite.
I don't suppose you needed to know this, and probably didn't want to know this but hey - someone out there is bound to think as obliquely as I do sometimes.
