Tutor Marked Assignments - TMA's
It is recommended that you do not refer back to the manual when completing a tutor marked assignment, which is only sensible. I have, however, always referred back to my own notes that I have taken as I work through the course. The mid section assignments are all multiple choice but the wording of some options can lead you up the garden path, but I shall highlight the ones I have come across.
Part A.
TMA-01 covers chapters 1 and 2 and has questions about domain names, dates of Internet events, HTTP and email protocols.
TMA-02 covers chapters 3 and 4 and queries your knowledge of email best practise, authentication and encryption.
TMA-03 covers chapters 5 and 6 dealing with FTP, Boolean operators, search engines and newsgroups.
TMA-04 covers chapters 7 and 8 and looks at scripting languages, file formats and plug-ins.
TMA-05 covers all of Part A as well as the electronic commerce covered in chapter 9.
TMA-05A/B is the end of section revision assignment and while Part A is still multiple choice, and you will need to bone up on your acronyms, Part B is not and requires some writing.
Part B.
TMA-06 covers chapters 1 and 2 and focuses on acronyms and HTML tags and elements.
TMA-07 covers chapters 3 and 4 and features more -n-depth HTML coding including several sections of code which you must match to one of a number of screen-shots of the possible resulting pages.
TMA-08 covers chapters 5 and 6 and continues on from TMA-07 with similar screen-shot type questions.
TMA-09 covers chapters 7 and 8 and delves deeper into HTML including the code for forms.
TMA-10 covers chapters 9 and presents more screen-shots which, this time, you need to match to a specification and includes one particularly ambiguous one.
TMA-10A/B is the revision assignment with 10 multiple-choice questions and 4 that will require some creative writing.
Part C.
TMA-11 covers chapters 1 and 2 and covers internetworking operating systems, protocols, topologies and that lovely chestnut the OSI/RM Reference Model.
TMA-12 covers chapters 3 and 4 and covers LAN standards and Internet architecture.
TMA-13 covers chapters 5 and 6 and features question on TCP/IP troubleshooting, IP address classes, server roles and the dreaded OSI/RM again.
TMA-14 covers chapters 7 and 8 and deals with client-side and server-side scripting, databases, intruders and viruses.
TMA-15 covers chapter 9 and looks at security, authentication, identification, encryption and firewalls.
TMA-15A/B/P is the prerequisite end of section assignment and they are definitely getting more demanding. Just wait 'til you get to section 2!
Part A includes the usual multiple-choice options but also some fill-in-the-blanks questions Part B is another essay writing exercise while Part C is a practical exercise that wants you to design and build your own website. This will be good practise as there is more to come later in the course.
